Following the assassination attempt on President Trump, the Republican National Convention (RNC) is taking place as scheduled, with security being stepped up around the venue in anticipation of tens of thousands of attendees.
“You have to go through multiple layers of security and several perimeters to get in,” Fox News reporter Bill Melugin wrote on X early Sunday from the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, where the Republican National Convention began on Monday and runs through Thursday.
Security measures currently include numerous road closures in all directions around the arena, K-rail barriers and metal barricades, police are “everywhere” and helicopters fly overhead regularly.
Media covering the event had to go through three levels of security to enter the venue, showing their press cards each time, which included Secret Service and TSA checkpoints with metal detectors and baggage screening.

“My staff and I have been in contact with those coordinating security planning for the Republican National Convention and will continue to be in close contact as we learn more about this situation,” Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “We should not be a country that tolerates political violence of any kind. That is not who we are as Americans.”
After a gunman broke out at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, wounding the president above his ear, attention quickly shifted to security for the nearly week-long rally.

Trump is still scheduled to attend the Republican National Convention, where he will be nominated as the party’s candidate to run for the 47th president of the United States in November’s general election.
