The entrance to the New Mexico Republican headquarters was burned with graffiti on suspicion of arson attack Sunday morning, officials and Republican officials said.
The Albuquerque Fire Station has launched an arson investigation after flames broke out just before 6am when anti-immigrant and customs enforcement graffiti was discovered.
The word “Ice = kkk” was sprayed on the side of a red paint building, causing many GOP members to believe the fire was a politically motivated arson attack.
“We are deeply relieved that no one harmed anything that could have been a tragic and deadly attack. Those who rely on violence to undermine our nation and the nation must be accountable, and our state leaders must reinforce the critical action of not tolerating these coronavirus attacks.” statement.
Firefighters were able to put out the flames in just five minutes, limiting the flames to the front door, preventing further damage to Republican headquarters.
At the time of the attack, three Trump 2024 posters were featured in the front window, with additional posters appearing inside the building's walls.
New Mexico's Democrats and their leaders quickly condemned the vandalism, but there were no comments on the fire.
“There is no excuse for any kind of political violence or vandalism. I strongly condemn Sunday's attack on the New Mexico Republican headquarters in Albuquerque. I reassured that no one was injured. Grisham said in a statement.
The New Mexico headquarters has been a frequent target over the past few years, facing one example of other vandalism and bomb threats.
Over the past few weeks, Tesla dealers have also been hit by vandals who have clearly shown their complaints about the Trump administration and the head of the Dozi and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Many of the targeted incidents include arson attacks, some of which include Molotov cocktails.
