Republicans Are Telling Suicidal LGBTQ People to ‘Pull the Trigger’

Chasten Buttigieg, husband of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, said Friday on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that Republicans are telling suicidal LGBTQ people to “pull the trigger.”

Host Nicole Wallace said: I keep calling back to Amanda Zulawski, a Texas woman who is pregnant and named her daughter Willow. She lost her pregnancy at 18 weeks and nearly died from sepsis. That’s a true story. She was a woman who wanted to get pregnant very much. The party’s extremist policies on abortion are an inconvenient wrinkle for the party because they are unconventional. If you love women, if you are a woman, if you know a woman, or have children, you understand what the stakes are in this election. ”

Buttigieg said, “It takes a lot of vulnerability. It’s really hard, but for me it was a miracle that I was able to grow into this person. When I was 13 or 14 years old, I was sitting in my parents’ basement. When I was staring at my father’s gun safe, I thought it was the only way out. I would never know love. I would never know family. . I never knew the community. I thought I was the only gay person in the world. I felt like the world was telling me to pull the trigger. I felt like this election was… It’s about one candidate who looks at that kid and says, “I’ve got your back,” and another candidate who is surrounded by people who actively say, “Pull the trigger.” I feel very strongly that there is. That’s what they believe. They don’t support LGTBQ people. They don’t support families like mine. They are not actively doing anything to make the lives of children like me, families like mine, and many others across this country better and safer. . ”
