Republicans Become Nervous as Official Behind ‘Disinformation Board’ in Biden Era Assumes New Position

Jennifer Daskal Appointed as Advisor to FISA Court

Jennifer Daskal, an official in the Biden administration who was involved with the brief-lived Disinformation Control Board, is set to begin her role as an advisor to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) starting February 1.

In her capacity as amicus curiae, or “friend of the court,” she will provide guidance to judges on legal matters concerning foreign surveillance warrants, especially within national security contexts, as reported by the Washington Free Beacon.

Daskal gained attention from her work with the Disinformation Commission during the Biden era, where she played a significant role and contributed to the development of its charter. There’s some mention of Nina Jankowitz, who served on the Board of Directors, and who, you might remember, has been involved in various controversies over disinformation topics.

Additionally, in 2016, Jankowitz made claims about President Donald Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia, something covered by various sources, including the Washington Examiner. Jankowitz has also been noted for her critiques related to disinformation, mentioning Christopher Steele and making remarks concerning the Hunter Biden laptop saga and the Wuhan lab leak theory.

Daskal has previously worked as a senior counterterrorism advisor for Human Rights Watch. The organization, which received a significant grant from George Soros, has had strong opinions about the Trump administration, describing it as a period characterized by harmful rhetoric and policies that undermine human rights.

Republicans are expressing concerns about Daskal’s new role. For instance, Missouri Senator Eric Schmidt took to social media to voice his disapproval, suggesting the appointment raises questions about oversight and reform within the FISA court. He emphasized the need for public trust in those handling sensitive national security matters.

Chuck Grassley, a Republican senator from Iowa, echoed similar sentiments, stating the importance of ensuring that the American public has confidence in those entrusted with vital responsibilities.

In the past, during discussions around her role in the Disinformation Control Board, Daskal expressed views against outright government censorship of differing opinions, which has sparked debates about the implications of her past engagements in her new advisory position.
