Republicans Win Congressional Baseball Game Again

In another round of friendly rivalry, Republicans triumphed over Democrats Wednesday with a score of 13-2, marking the GOP’s fifth straight win in this annual charity event.

This year, the victory margin was less pronounced compared to last year’s dominating performance. The Democrats had chances to put points on the board but left nine runners stranded, struggling particularly in the later innings.

As is tradition, Democrats wore custom jerseys while Republicans opted for their signature red uniforms, featuring “Make America Great Again” caps. Starting pitcher Greg Staub even showcased gold sneakers, purportedly signed by Donald Trump beforehand.

Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) had a realistic outlook heading into the game, definitively stating he didn’t expect a win for the Democrats.

The game started off with potential for the Democrats, who managed to secure walks. Yet, Texas’ Pfluger dove at third base to make key defensive plays, halting their momentum.

Republicans capitalized on a throwing error from the Democrats early on, establishing a 5-0 lead by the second inning. While the Democrats made a slight comeback with a triple from Rep. Morgan McGarvey (D-Ky.), they ultimately fell short at 5-2.

Regrettably, the Democrats couldn’t score again, and the Republicans increased their lead to 10-2 over five innings.

Defensive woes continued for the Democrats as the game went on, with the outfield misjudging standard fly balls and allowing two runners to reach base on infield hits.

Steube, who held the Democrats to just two runs over five innings, was recognized as the game’s Most Valuable Player. He expressed pride in this recognition via social media, emphasizing the support team’s contribution.

Despite a weak showing for the Democrats, Rep. Pat Harrigan (R-N.C.) wrapped up the game after taking the mound in the seventh inning, with Senator Reuben Gallego (D-Ariz.) grounding out to conclude the game.

The Republican team, coached by Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas), dedicated extensive training time over the previous months to prepare. Williams mentioned the team was up for practice at 5:45 AM daily.

Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) humorously pointed out the positive reception of Williams’ MAGA hat during the game.

Leading the Democrats, Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.) named Aguilar as her party’s MVP.

This year’s game wasn’t marred by major protests, a contrast to previous events where activists disrupted play.

Ultimately, the game generated $2.81 million for local charities, including the Tim Johnson Memorial Fund and Boys and Girls Club of the Washington Nationals, with over 30,000 tickets sold.
