Republicans Defeat Democrats in Annual Congressional Baseball Game

On Wednesday, Republican lawmakers dominated their Democratic rivals during the annual Congressional baseball game in Washington, D.C., securing a 13-2 victory at Nationals Park.

This win marks the fifth year in a row that the GOP has triumphed over the Democrats. Rep. Greg Stubuch (R-Fla.), who had a significant injury from a ladder fall two years back, took the mound for five innings, striking out seven Democrats.

“I think I might be needing an ice bath tomorrow,” Stubuch joked after the game.

The MVP honors were awarded to Rep. August Pfluger (R-Texas) for an impressive diving catch that saved the first inning after the Democrats loaded the bases. Pfluger’s remarkable play went viral on social media.

“We’re really proud to announce this year’s MVP for the Congressional baseball game!” Pfluger posted on social media. “We couldn’t have asked for a better support team here in D.C. Another big win for us.”

This year’s game unfolded in a calmer atmosphere compared to last year’s, which had featured disruptions by anti-Israel protesters and climate activists.

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) cheered on her team from the Democratic dugout during the game, trying to rally her fellow Democrats.

Over 30,000 tickets were sold, raising around $2.8 million for various charities.

“Team GOP wins!! So proud of our victory and all my Republican colleagues tonight,” tweeted House Majority Leader Steve Scullies (R-La.). “We raised a significant amount for our local charity.”

Interestingly, the Republicans now hold a series lead over the Democrats with a record of 47-42 overall in these games.

In 2017, Scalise, another Republican player, was unfortunately filmed by left-wing extremists the day before that year’s game during practice in Virginia.
