The producers of a Japanese film that was showcased at the Cannes Film Festival are calling for an investigation and a safety review after one of their team members was injured by a falling palm tree on the busy Croisette Boulevard.
This incident took place on Saturday while the team was walking along Cannes’ iconic coastal pathways. Local officials reported that a man in his 30s was hurt during the event.
A statement from Siglo Co Ltd and Lespros Entertainment Co Ltd, the production companies involved, indicated that the injured individual was “a wrestling entertainment production producer escorting the cast” and was quickly transported to a local hospital. The statement went on to say, “A health check has confirmed fractures to the nose and other body parts. Fortunately, the producer is conscious and currently in stable condition.”
Festival attendee Mercy Fink mentioned that the trees were likely uprooted by strong winds, adding, “There was a terrible gust of wind and I heard a scream. It hit the man on the ground and injured him badly.”
The producer expressed concern, stating, “Given that the Cannes Film Festival is still happening and incidents have occurred in areas frequently visited, we sincerely hope to investigate quickly the reasons and any preventative measures needed to ensure such accidents don’t reoccur in the future.”
