Crowd Rental Companies Report Surge in Demand Amid Political Tensions in D.C.
There’s been a notable uptick in interest toward crowd rental services in Washington, D.C., especially following President Donald Trump’s decision to enhance federal police presence in the area.
“Currently, inquiries in D.C. are up around 400% compared to this time last year,” said Adam Swart, CEO of Crowds On Demand. He mentioned that this increase is being measured from July to May 2024.
Swart highlighted that instances like this usually coincide with what he calls “high-stakes political moments.”
Public Sentiment on Trump’s Policies
“The vast majority of these inquiries relate to opposition against Trump’s policies and increased awareness of government overreach,” Swart noted, emphasizing the need to balance local and federal power to ensure public safety.
He pointed out that most attendees at political or advocacy events are often compensated in some form. “A lot of people don’t realize it, but many protesters are paid. Staff from both sides of the aisle frequently attend rallies during their free time. Yes, many are there for work-related reasons, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t support the cause. Still, it does impact how ‘organic’ these crowds appear on television,” he explained.
Trump’s Announcement on Law Enforcement
Recently, Trump revealed plans to reinvigorate D.C.’s National Guard to patrol the streets and announced a federal takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department, citing rising violent crime as the driving force behind this move. This announcement followed a carjacking incident involving former government employee Edward Coristine and his girlfriend on August 3rd.
Trump’s concerns about lawlessness have been vocalized on his social media platforms, where he indicated that criminals feel emboldened by the perceived lack of repercussions. “The latest victims faced brutal attacks by local criminals,” he stated, reflecting a broader narrative about safety in the city.
