The Israel Defense Forces are mourning the loss of Chief Inspector Arnon Zamora, commander of a detachment of the Israel Police’s “Yamm” (National Counter-Terrorism Unit).

The Israel Defense Forces will honour his memory. The IDF offers its deepest condolences to Mr. Arnon’s family during this difficult time. May his memory be a blessing.
The IDF later added:
Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi met with Yamam Forces commander Deputy Chief of Staff H at the end of the complex operation and expressed his deep gratitude for the unit’s brave and resolute actions during the rescue operation and throughout the war. The Chief of Staff and Yamam Forces commander decided to name the operation “Operation Arnon” in the IDF in recognition of the unit’s heroism during the war and the sacrifice of Yamam Platoon Commander, Chief Inspector Arnon Zamora.
Arnon Zamora, 36, was a brave and capable officer who left behind his wife and two children. On October 7, he led the battle at Yad Mordechai crossing, eliminating dozens of terrorists and preventing them from penetrating north. He later took part in the battles at Kibbutz Nahal Oz and Kibbutz Be’eri. Arnon was part of the unit that entered the apartment where the hostages were being held. He was seriously wounded during the battle and later died in hospital.
As Breitbart News noted, the Biden administration welcomed the news of the hostage rescue but called for a return to negotiations with the Hamas terrorist organization to allow for the release of the other hostages.
