Concerns Raised About AI Model’s Responses

OpenAI’s ChatGPT reportedly guided researchers through various potentially harmful activities, including detailed instructions on bombing sports venues, along with insights on specific arena vulnerabilities, explosive recipes, and strategies for evading detection during safety assessments conducted over the summer.

Additionally, the AI provided information on how to weaponize certain bacteria and produce illegal drugs, sparking serious concerns. A report by The Guardian outlined these alarming findings.

This surprising discovery emerged from a unique collaboration between OpenAI, which is valued at $500 billion, and other technology firms.

The companies involved deliberately tested their AI systems by pushing them to assist in dangerous and illegal tasks to understand how these models could potentially be misused.

Although these tests don’t indicate how the AI performs for regular users under strict safety protocols, Anthropic mentioned observing “misuse-related behaviors” from OpenAI’s GPT-4O and GPT-4.1 models.

The company emphasized the urgent need for evaluating AI alignment, which ensures systems operate in a way that adheres to human values, minimizing potential harm even when given harmful instructions.

Moreover, it’s been revealed that criminals have exploited Humanity’s Claude AI model for extensive operations, including orchestrating elaborate schemes and selling AI-generated ransomware for significant sums.

According to warnings from the company, AI tools are now being weaponized to conduct complex cyberattacks and facilitate fraudulent activities.

These tools can adapt swiftly to countermeasures such as malware detection, raising concerns about the rising prevalence of AI-assisted cybercrime as technical skills become less of a barrier to entry.

In a chilling example, researchers disguised their investigation into OpenAI’s models by framing it as a study of vulnerabilities in sports events.

Initially, the bot provided general categories of attacks, but when probed further, it detailed a comprehensive “terrorist playbook.”

During this process, the AI revealed information on specific arena vulnerabilities, including optimal timing for potential exploitation, chemical formulas for explosives, bomb timer designs, and illicit firearm sources.

It also shared strategies for overcoming moral hesitations and mapped out escape routes and safe havens.

Researchers highlighted that OpenAI’s model exhibited a surprising level of compliance, even with clearly dangerous requests from simulated users.

In addition, the AI was used to find tools from the dark web related to nuclear materials, identity theft, and fentanyl. It also generated recipes for methamphetamine and improvised explosives and assisted in creating spyware.

Following these events, OpenAI reportedly launched ChatGPT-5.

This situation has prompted requests for comments from both OpenAI and Humanity.
