Anaconda, Montana – Two locals from this small town, recently rocked by a tragic shooting incident, felt compelled to share their thoughts—albeit under the veil of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the situation. They indicated that the violence, which resulted in the death of four individuals last Friday, came as no surprise to them.
Describing the shooter, Michael Paul Brown, one resident noted, “He’s always been a kind of loose cannon. We joked about him at barbecues. It wasn’t just talk; we filmed him acting wild.” The remarks highlight how members of the community had long been aware of Brown’s unpredictable behavior.
Reflecting on past encounters, another resident recalled, “I had a run-in with him once, and I was warned, ‘You better watch out, he might kill you.’ He’s always been a bit out there.” These personal anecdotes reveal a deeper awareness of Brown’s troubling history, which included stories of him boasting about violent escapades.

Brown stands accused of the deaths of Daniel Edwin Bailey (59), Nancy Lauretta Kelly (64), David Allen Leach (70), and Tony Wayne Palm (74)—all residents of Anaconda. As law enforcement continues their manhunt for him, they classify him as “armed and extremely dangerous.” Authorities are still looking for a white Ford F-150 linked to Brown that was filled with survival gear.
