Trump Appeals to Foreign Companies on US Immigration Laws
Donald Trump has urged foreign businesses to adhere to US immigration laws when investing in the country. This call comes after immigration enforcement operations took place at the Hyundai Battery Factory in Georgia.
In a statement, Trump emphasized, “Following the immigration enforcement project at the Hyundai Battery Factory in Georgia, I am asking all foreign companies investing in the United States to respect our country’s immigration laws.” He added that investments are welcome, but underscored the importance of hiring American workers.
Recently, 475 individuals were arrested at the Hyundai factory, many of whom are from South Korea. In response, the South Korean government has entered into an agreement with the United States to facilitate the release of these detained workers. President Lee Jae Myung indicated that charter flights will be arranged to return the workers to South Korea.
According to reports, the Homeland Security investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were primarily working illegally in the country. It’s worth noting that while Hyundai owns the factory, the workers claimed they were not directly employed by the company.
In a statement, the South Korean Foreign Ministry expressed its “concerns and regret” regarding the situation at the factory.
The Trump administration reaffirmed its stance on the importance of respecting American immigration laws.
