Response from ex-NFL player regarding Kris Boyd shooting

Response to Shooting Involving Jets’ Kris Boyd

Jack Brewer, a former special teams captain for the Minnesota Vikings, spoke out about the shooting that reportedly injured New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd early Sunday morning.

In an interview, Brewer expressed his prayers for Boyd’s recovery and suggested that NFL teams should restrict players from being out in “lawless cities” past midnight.

“New York City is even more lawless today,” Brewer remarked. He warned that the city’s direction could worsen with incoming leaders who take an anti-police stance. If he were coaching in New York, he would include a clause in players’ contracts stating that anything occurring after midnight would be their personal responsibility. “If you break the curfew, your contract will be terminated,” he added.

He noted that NFL teams invest heavily in their athletes and that operating in dangerous environments at night isn’t advisable. Brewer, recalling his time with the New York Giants, stated that he understands the risks associated with late-night outings, claiming he has firsthand experience in chaotic nightclub situations.

“I know exactly what’s going to happen. Fights, gunfire, chaos. You know the environment before you even walk in the door,” Brewer elaborated.

Looking back at his career, Brewer confidently stated that there’s never a need for players to be out at 2 a.m. “Nothing good happens after midnight,” he reiterated, emphasizing that coaches everywhere share this sentiment.

The shooting incident, which took place around 2 a.m. in midtown Manhattan, has left Boyd reported to be in serious but stable condition. The Jets have acknowledged the situation with a brief statement, indicating no further comments at this time.

This season marks Boyd’s first with the Jets, although he has been on disabled reserve since August.
