Responsibility for an unacceptable defeat

The Knicks faced a tough overtime loss against the Pacers, 138-135, in Game 1 at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday.

Jalen Brunson, B+

Brunson was a standout on offense, scoring a remarkable 43 points, the highest of the game. Yet, he struggled with foul issues and missed a crucial opportunity to hit a three-pointer at the end of overtime that could have tied the game. On the bright side, the Pacers may not have a solid strategy to counter Brunson’s sharp skills moving forward. That does provide a bit of solace after the disappointing end to Game 1.

The Town of Karl Anthony, B-

He made a strong offensive showing with 35 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. This playoff series is significant for Towns, and he appeared to find his rhythm in Game 1, showcasing his versatility against the Pacers. However, like his teammates, he missed key free throws—one that could have secured the game in regulation and another crucial one that could have tied things in overtime.

Mikal Bridges, D

Bridges was tasked with defending Tyrese Haliburton, who impressively scored 31 points and provided 11 assists. Bridges only managed to score two free throws and a single three-pointer, which really hurt his contribution.
