Retired NYPD cop shoots man who threatened him with machete in Staten Island road-rage spat: sources

A former NYPD officer shot and killed a man who threatened him with a machete during a broad daylight street assault on Staten Island on Wednesday, law enforcement officials said.

A 45-year-old man with a knife confronted a 50-year-old retired police officer shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Vineland Avenue near Grantwood Avenue in Annadale after a traffic accident, authorities and sources said.

In response, the former police officer pulled out a gun and shot the man in the chest in a tree-lined residential area, police said.

The injured man was taken to Staten Island University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

The perpetrator remained at the scene and no one was immediately charged.
