In 2024, fans overwhelmingly supported a game that eschewed progressive ideology and opted for a return to normalcy.
Whether it's sports or good old hack-and-slash, there was no need to tout the best game of the year. non-binary adventures; They let the gameplay do the talking.
warhammer
First on that list is Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines 2. The game was well-received not only by the general public, but also by skeptics who worried that the game was turning to the dark side.
As That Park Place reported In May, Warhammer lore was rewritten to include women, and the words “son” and “man” were removed from older texts.
Thankfully, the only “question” in this game was whether gamers should kill the horde of aliens coming from the left side first, or the right side.
Although the vast landscapes were sometimes suffocating, it offered a graphically impressive title that was easy to pick up and play and included couch co-op play. Jump into giant armor and kill aliens with giant swords and machine guns? yes.

Stellar Blade fought against machines and won many times. The match was plagued with bad pressing from the beginning, and for good reason. First, South Korean video game director Kim Hyun-tae was accused of sexism for making the main character look like an actual woman.
The complaint stated that the character Eve was an unrealistic depiction of a woman's body, but it was quickly pointed out that the character was a depiction of a woman's body. body scan of a living human being.
Kim refused to hide her character, which admittedly sounds strange, until you realize that critics criticize female characters in video games for being too attractive. The game later released updated costumes for the characters after users complained that the designers had already compromised too much at launch.
Kim hit back at critics, pointing out that Western media focuses too much on “gender and racial diversity,” and saying that her character designs are actually “not what they aspire to or what they're trying to do.” He added that he believes that “is becoming somewhat courageous.”
There were no problems with gameplay either. Another slasher game with modern graphics lives up to the fan hype and 9.2 Based on approximately 7,000 user ratings.
college football 25
With the motto “Every team is someone's favorite team,” EA College Football 25 was a crowd-pleaser, if not the best technical sports game of all time.
Released in July, the game broke all-time U.S. sales records in just a few months. soccer match October of the following year. Much of that can be attributed to fan excitement after over a decade away from the series, but the game still plays extremely well.
But the real thing is what conveyed it. With a custom commencement song chosen from a long list, consistently updated uniforms, and the College Football Playoff before it actually happened, the game was a welcome change from the monotony of Madden.
In fact, NCAA outperformed Madden 25 very well. rumor Rumors began to circulate that the NFL was concerned about the series' poor performance ahead of licensing negotiations with Electronic Arts.
Fans will no doubt be hoping that the success of this game will put pressure on EA to make a better product, but it could just lead to multiple stale soccer franchises.
MLB The Show
at the same time, MLB The Show '24 It's probably one of the few sports games that gets visibly better every year. The critic score is around 80, but the user score is terrible. Both are wrong.
This MLB game is a huge improvement over last year's game, with features that are actually worth using and keeps the lineup moving. No noticeable bugs are gone, and some gameplay shortcomings are still evident, but long-time players will notice that certain instances they were curious about no longer occur.
Pitchers can actually take out runners, base runners can actually double after a line drive out, and pitcher confidence is important. Add to that a story mode featuring Derek Jeter, which is somewhat fun (thanks to a series of interviews with him), and is probably the best baseball game of all time.
However, there is still room for improvement.

Many users complained that the first game felt a bit empty, but the sequel bounced back with content that was described as over-the-top. Multiple in-game mini-challenges, near-impossible side quests, and even a Magic: The Gathering-style card game.
The larger map benefited from a story that moved beyond the city of Midgar and was promoted along with the amusement park Gold Saucer. It was quite amazing to see the original game, drawn with hard pixels, come to life as a modern graphical masterpiece. The game is now over 92/100 About Metacritic.
It will be interesting to see how the third part compares when it's released, as it likely has the saddest scenes in the story behind it. *gulp* 2027.
It's a good enough story that even the people from “Twilight” will understand. brag about it …OK, he's also Batman.
