Investigation into Fraud at Minnesota Day Care Center

Federal authorities are currently looking into a significant fraud case involving a day care center in Minnesota. This follows the discovery of a video linked to a 2018 fraud investigation that reveals parents and child care providers had been part of a scheme since 2015.

The footage, which aired in a local FOX report, depicts a parent dropping off a child at a day care in Hennepin County and then taking the child back just minutes later. Authorities from 2018 stated that this video was captured by a surveillance camera, forming part of a legal case led by Hennepin County. The scheme allowed low-income parents to enroll their children in day care services while providers falsely claimed reimbursement for services that were never rendered. Surveillance footage indicated there were days when families didn’t even attend, yet the day care sought government reimbursement anyway.

The timestamp on this video dates back to March 2015.

Potential Fraud Losses Could Reach $9 Billion

Federal officials underscore that the scale of the fraud might be enormous—potential losses in Minnesota could surpass $9 billion. Recently, a federal indictment was issued against 47 individuals involved in a $250 million scheme known as “Feeding Our Future.” This operation diverted child nutrition funds for extravagant purchases and bribes, according to prosecutors.

Another video surfaced showing a man handing parents an envelope that was allegedly a kickback payment for their involvement in this fraudulent activity.

The situation has escalated further after a viral video by Nick Shirley, who visited several day care centers in Minnesota. One center he filmed seemed nearly empty but still received millions in state funding, igniting public outrage. Over the weekend, notable figures such as Vice President J.D. Vance, Donald Trump Jr., and Elon Musk criticized Minnesota’s Democratic Governor Tim Walz as a result.

Labor Secretary Announces Investigation Effort

In response, the Labor Secretary has announced that a “strike team” will be dispatched to Minnesota to investigate the widespread fraud allegations. On Sunday, the White House shared a post from Education Secretary Linda McMahon, calling the fraud claims a “breathtaking failure.”

This comes at a time when Walz is already facing scrutiny for another scandal involving alleged social welfare fraud resulting in losses of approximately $1 billion, predominantly affecting the Somali community in Minneapolis.

Conservative strategist Greg Price commented on social media, suggesting that fraud committed by some individuals within the Somali community has been an ongoing issue.

Ongoing Investigations into Fraud Schemes

The Department of Health and Human Services is also probing Minnesota’s management of billions in federal social welfare funds amid these fraud concerns. FBI Director Kash Patel announced that additional personnel and investigative resources are being allocated to Minnesota as the FBI intensifies its efforts to dismantle large-scale fraud schemes affecting federal programs.

Patel highlighted the “Feeding Our Future” investigation, indicating it exposed a scheme that misappropriated $250 million in federal food aid designated for children during the COVID-19 pandemic. To date, there have been 78 charges and 57 convictions tied to this investigation, with prosecutors also pursuing charges against a defendant for attempting to bribe jurors with $120,000 in cash. The inquiry remains active.

Patel remarked that the FBI believes this situation is likely just the beginning of uncovering a much larger issue. He emphasized their commitment to tracking the funds and ensuring children’s safety while also referring multiple individuals to immigration officials for potential denaturalization and deportation proceedings.
