Rex Ryan takes a jab at Mike McDaniel with a nickname after Dolphins defeat

Rex Ryan recently shared his thoughts, calling out Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel. He described McDaniel as a “geek boy” and didn’t hold back when discussing the Dolphins’ performance, especially after their hefty 33-8 loss against the Colts.

On ESPN’s “Get Up,” Ryan questioned whether the players actually respect McDaniel, implying their lack of toughness. He stated, “What he’s talking about, maybe he’s on another level, McGenius guy, whatever he is, a nerd boy. But anyway, their teams don’t respect the coach. They play that way. They’re soft. I’m with you. It’s all part of the soccer team. They have a lot of talent for this team. They don’t play with passion.”

Given that Ryan and McDaniel have very different coaching styles, it makes sense that Ryan would respond this way following Miami’s disappointing performance.

The Dolphins’ offense managed only 211 yards and turned the ball over three times. Colts’ quarterback Daniel Jones, starting for the team, threw for 272 yards and accounted for three touchdowns.

McDaniel addressed ongoing criticism in an interview the following Monday, stating, “I don’t think this job is under pressure. I’m not qualified for this job, but I think the most important thing is I’m worried about doing my job, and that’s what the team gets from me.”

Looking ahead, the Dolphins will face the Patriots in Week 2, which presents an opportunity to bounce back after their recent struggles. McDaniel commented, “I think one of the 17s is one of the 17s. And if that type of game never appears again, that’s the only way you can make it worth it, because otherwise it’s just miserable for it to be miserable.”
