Left-wing environmental groups are revisiting a 2012 case in which Robert F. Kennedy Jr. transported parts of a dead whale across state lines, and are trying to prosecute him this week.
The Biodiversity Action Fund Center cited a 2012 interview with Kennedy's daughter, Kick Kennedy, saying: Town and Country Magazine. In an interview, Kik recounted how his father cut off the head of a dead whale, tied it to the roof of his car and drove it from the Massachusetts coast to Mount Kisco, New York.
The center argues that the animal is protected by the Marine Mammal Conservation and Endangered Species Protection Act and that it is illegal to possess any parts.
The group further alleges that this is likely a felony violation of the Lacey Act of 1900, which “prohibits the transportation of any wild animal, live or dead, that has come into possession in violation of state, federal, or international regulations or laws,” the group told Axios.

A representative for Kennedy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In an interview, Kick recounted how, when she was 6 years old, her father heard about a dead whale on the shores of Squaw Island in Hyannis Port. Her father, who was interested in studying animals, went to the site with a chainsaw, cut off the whale's head, and tied it to the roof of his car with a bungee cord.
“Every time we accelerated on the highway, whale fluid would pour out onto the car window. It was the most disgusting thing on earth,” Kick told the magazine, adding that the incident happened around 1994.
“We all had plastic bags over our heads with holes in them. People on the highway were giving us the middle finger and it was a normal thing for us,” she added.

The center did not immediately respond to questions from Fox News Digital about whether it had contacted police. In a letter from the group obtained by Axios, the group asked Kennedy to turn over any dead animals in his possession.
The group is the political action arm of the Center for Biological Diversity and touts its support for Vice President Kamala Harris on the front page of its website.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. blasted the “mainstream media aligned with the Democratic National Committee” and accused them of orchestrating Harris' rise.

The news resurfaced just days after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsed former President Donald Trump.
“The 2024 election is crucial for the future of our environment, which is why we endorse Kamala Harris for president and are working with our progressive partners to ensure that all candidates are climate champions,” the group wrote.
