Rhode Island Man Faces Charges for Threatening Trump
A man from Rhode Island is in serious legal trouble after allegedly threatening to kill former President Donald Trump and several others linked to his administration.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that 37-year-old Carl D. Montague has been charged with making threats against the president, interstate threats, and threats of assault, which also extend to a judge or law enforcement officer.
According to allegations, Montague made a violent post on Truth Social on June 27, 2025, where he purportedly threatened to shoot Attorney General Pam Bondy and Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.
The FBI became involved after the parent company of Truth Social notified them around 11:30 PM on the same date regarding Montague’s post.
The criminal filings reveal that the FBI tracked down Montague and, when approached at his home, he allegedly confirmed his involvement with the social media post.
It has been noted that Montague reportedly mentioned using marijuana when he made the threat and claimed to have deleted his Truth Social account afterward. He expressed dissatisfaction with current political situations and sought to vent his frustrations online.
The charges indicate that while Montague made these threats, he seemed to lack any concrete reason for targeting Bondy or Miller, even admitting he couldn’t accurately identify Bondy. In fact, the complaint suggests he expressed remorse for his post.
Further investigations revealed that Montague does not possess any weapons and reportedly has no plans or means to carry out such violence. Nonetheless, authorities are treating the threats seriously, and the investigation is ongoing.
