LeBron James’ Agent Responds to Jeanie Buss’ Discontent

Rich Paul, the agent for LeBron James, is minimizing reports suggesting that Jeanie Buss, the governor of the Los Angeles Lakers, is frustrated with James.

According to sources, Buss has expressed concerns about James’ “outsized ego” and the significant influence Paul has on the organization, as noted in a report by ESPN. It was mentioned that Buss is worried about a lack of accountability since James’ arrival, particularly in relation to the unsuccessful trade for Russell Westbrook prior to the 2021-22 season.

Paul addressed these claims during his podcast, “Game Over with Max Kellerman and Rich Paul.” He stated, “Articles are written every day. Who evaluates? I don’t evaluate. When these kinds of articles come out, people try to get on the clickbait.” He encouraged listeners to avoid worrying about such speculation, suggesting a sense of detachment from the drama.

The Lakers made headlines in 2024 when they chose to draft James’ son, Bronny, despite his struggles while recovering from a cardiac arrest during his time at USC. With Bronny going 55th overall, there are whispers that James had a significant say in this selection, further complicating Buss’ feelings on the situation.

It was reported that after selecting Bronny, Buss privately remarked that James should show gratitude for that decision, but she seemed less enthusiastic about it. During contract discussions with James that summer, she appeared to accept the situation with some reluctance, acknowledging a potential public relations problem if they chose not to draft him.

Since taking over the team following Jerry Buss’ death in 2013, Jeanie has managed day-to-day operations and is expected to continue in her role for at least five more years.

Under Buss’ ownership, the Lakers secured 11 of their 17 championships, including their most recent title in 2020. LeBron joined the team in 2018, contributing to their championship run that year.
