At a lecture in Massachusetts over the weekend to celebrate the release of the film, JawsActor Richard Dreyfuss has reportedly slammed parents who allow their children to be transgender, calling it “bad parenting”.
As a result, Dreyfus has been labeled “transphobic” and “homophobic” in numerous media reports.
Richard Dreyfuss appeared at the 150-seat Cabot Theatre in Beverly, Massachusetts, on Saturday and went off script to attack a variety of left-wing sacrosanct topics: transgender kids, #MeToo, racial quotas.
The Oscar-winning actor reportedly voiced opinions shared by tens of millions of Americans about transgender children.
One participant named Diane Wolf said: Boston Globe: “[Dreyfuss] “He said that parents of transgender youth who accept a gender transition are bad parents, and that one day their kids might change their minds.” (This comment was from an audience member, not Dreyfuss.)
Various media outlets have called Dreyfuss “transphobic,” apparently based on this comment and her decision to wear a dress while appearing onstage to Taylor Swift’s “Love Story.”
Media outlets that have used or repeated the term “transphobic” include NBC News, Advocate, GuardianIndiewire, and even Men’s Journal.
Many of the same publications described Dreyfus’ comments as “homophobic,” but it is unclear what statements by him qualify as “homophobic.”
