Richard Gere Relies on Disproven Hamas Death Figures to Criticize Israel

Richard Gere Critiques Israel’s Actions in Gaza

Richard Gere, the Hollywood actor known for his role in Hoax, recently criticized Israel’s military actions in Gaza, referencing questionable statistics about casualties released by Hamas. He claimed that, “The Netanyahu incident is now leaving prison,” during a social media interview. He suggested that if Netanyahu is no longer prime minister, he could face imprisonment for corruption and alleged that the ongoing conflict is unnecessary, resulting in the deaths of many innocent people. He mentioned that, according to his sources, 70% of those who died were women and children.

The timing and location of the interview remain unclear, but clips were circulated earlier this week on platforms like TikTok by “Palestinian celebrities.”

It’s important to note that Gere’s claims are based on figures from Hamas, which do not differentiate between combatants and civilians. These statistics have been challenged. Reports from May indicated that the actual percentage of women and children killed during the ongoing conflict is much lower than Hamas’s assertions, with a survey revealing that only about 51% of fatalities were women and children, contradicting the claims of 70%.

The survey’s authors criticized Hamas’s media operations for manipulating statistics to promote their narrative, suggesting a systematic effort to convey that the Israeli Defense Forces are committing war crimes.

While Gere’s political stance is well-known, he has also shown support for the Chinese Communist Party, leading to some questioning the alignment of his views with those of Hamas in their conflict against Israel.
