Rick Caruso Endorses Matt Mahan for California Governor
Rick Caruso has thrown his full support behind Democratic San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan in the race for California governor, declaring Mahan as “the only candidate with a proven track record.”
Caruso, a billionaire real estate developer, recently exited both the Los Angeles mayoral race and the gubernatorial race in California, expressing that only Mahan can address many of the issues plaguing the state.
In a video shared on X, Caruso, who has shifted from Republican to Democrat, praised Mahan as “one of the brightest and most capable leaders in the state.”
He emphasized that Mahan is “full of innovative ideas that offer solutions without getting sidetracked by partisan nonsense.”
“He’s the only candidate in the race with executive experience who has found success in both the private sector and in governance,” Caruso noted regarding the mayor of San Jose.
Caruso pointed out that Mahan understands that tackling California’s challenges requires moving away from old political narratives and focusing instead on practical solutions. However, neither Caruso nor Mahan elaborated on what those solutions might entail.
Caruso further stated on X, “Mahan is not just a career talker; he’s a doer. While others engage in political debates, Matt achieves results. He recognizes that improving California means implementing real, common-sense solutions that will actually enhance people’s lives.”
With less than four months until the primary, Mahan is entering an already packed field of Democratic contenders for the governor’s position.
Following allegations that Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass falsified a wildfire report, Caruso hinted at possibly re-entering the Los Angeles mayoral race. “I’ve received many calls today, with posts urging me to jump back in. It’s an honor,” he mentioned during an interview.
The 67-year-old billionaire added, “Time is short for a decision due to an upcoming deadline this Saturday. I plan to discuss it with my family before making a final choice.”
However, Caruso’s political advisor Mike Murphy later confirmed that he would not pursue a mayoral run. “Rick has greatly appreciated the surge of support, but after careful thought, an early decision was made, and it stands that he will not be a candidate for mayor,” Murphy stated.
