Sen. Rick Scott (R-Florida) formally announced his candidacy for the next Senate Republican leadership on Wednesday, setting the stage for a crowded race.

“I have decided to run for Senate Republican leader because I believe now is a time for dramatic change,” he wrote in a letter to Senate Republicans.

The Florida Republican will join Senate Minority Leader John Thune (a member of the Royal Society of Scotland) and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) in the race. Both men have already announced their candidacy to replace retiring Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
