Concerns Emerge for 49ers Wide Receiver Ricky Pearsall
This year is shaping up to be competitive for Ricky Pearsall, the 49ers wide receiver, but there are already some worries surrounding the third-year player.
After an injury-plagued start to his NFL career, Pearsall posted workout videos on his Instagram Story, where he was spotted wearing a knee brace on his right knee.
Last season, he only played in nine games because of a torn PCL in that same knee.
In a previous interview, Pearsall mentioned that his knee wouldn’t heal until he had ample time to rest, suggesting that it might improve after the offseason.
Despite being in a knee brace during the recent training video, Pearsall appeared to be moving well in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He looked explosive in his drills, which is promising. Although I can’t help but wonder how much strain is too much given his previous injury.
Throughout his first two NFL seasons, Pearsall has participated in 20 games. He missed his rookie year due to a shooting incident and is now facing not just the knee problems but also a hamstring injury.
When the 49ers selected Pearsall as the 31st pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, he was coming off an impressive season at Florida, where he racked up 965 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
In his career thus far, he has accumulated 928 yards with an average of 13.9 yards per catch along with three touchdown receptions.
As the 49ers gear up for training camp soon, there’s hope that Pearsall’s injury issues will soon be behind him. It seems likely he’ll be the one filling the slot while newly joined Mike Evans occupies the outside position.
