Ride Suspension at Six Flags Fiesta Texas
Last weekend, some rather dramatic video footage surfaced, showing amusement park guests suspended nearly 200 feet in the air after a ride got canceled. This happened on the Supergirl Sky Flight, a swing ride reminiscent of a StarFlyer, at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio on Sunday.
According to the park’s website, the ride reaches a height of about 200 feet.
Ride Shutdown Explained
In a statement, Six Flags explained that an operator had to stop the ride because a guest took out their phone, which is against park rules. Officials noted that the incident lasted roughly seven minutes.
“The ride operator shut down our ride because a guest violated our safety policies,” a park spokesperson stated.
Once the situation was resolved, the ride continued operating, and all guests were safely brought down without any issues for the rest of the day.
One rider, Maria Salazar, expressed how frightening it was to be stuck up there, saying, “It was scary having to wait in the air and not be able to move.” She recounted that her group spent around 10 to 15 minutes up there before a mechanic had to come to assist.
The Supergirl Sky Flight ride is promoted as being taller than the iconic quarry walls that encircle the park, offering, as they say, “breathtaking 360-degree views.” But, well, the speed at which it spins makes it hard to truly take in the scenery.
Interestingly, this park, opened in 1992, isn’t the same as Six Flags Over Texas located in Arlington, near Dallas. Notably, a similar incident recently occurred at another Six Flags park in Massachusetts, where a ride also had to stop mid-cycle, forcing guests to evacuate. A spokesperson at that time reassured that “trained employees safely removed all passengers from the vehicle.”
Amusement parks often try to engage and communicate with their guests, and it appears that the staff at Fiesta Texas is no different, inviting all riders to visit the park again in the future.
