Right Policy ‘Above my Pay Grade’ and Work Permits ‘Key’

On Friday's broadcast of FOX News Channel's “America's Newsroom,” Denver Mayor Mike Johnston said increasing work permits for immigrants without tightening border security would incentivize more people to come. In response to a question about whether or not the United States could afford to do so, he said that a proper border policy was “beyond my paycheck.” School year. ” And, “We're open to Congress deciding what admissions policy should be. That's not our decision.”

Co-host Dana Perino said, “If you get a work permit without actually securing the border, more people will leave their home countries and make the dangerous journey to cross the border and try to enter the country illegally.'' Isn't it just that?” he asked.

“I think that's why we're asking Congress to take action on what we think the right border entry policy is. It's above my pay grade,” Johnston said. But whether they decide to admit 10,000 people per day or 5,000 people per day, what's important to us is whether they decide to admit 10,000 people per day or 5,000 people per day. When you arrive, you just need to be able to work. If someone comes to your city and begs me every day for a chance to work, and we say, “No, no, we won't let you work, we'll come here instead. I don't think there's anything more un-American than saying, 'I want you to stay here.' Even though they don't work, they are supported by taxes. They are hard-working, hard-working, skilled people who want a job. And I get calls every day from CEOs, conservative CEOs, saying, I have a job open, why can't I hire these people? Let's put them to work. And I also agree with that opinion. ”

asked co-host Bill Hemmer. “But why not start at the source? Why not push for policy changes at the border so we can address this problem long before it comes to your city?”

Mr Johnston replied: “Yes, again, we are open to Congress deciding what admissions policy should be. That is not our decision.”
