Riley Gaines: Conservatives need to come together or they might give power back to the left.

A week before the 2025 elections, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a prominent figure in the Democratic Party, found herself momentarily distracted while campaigning for Zoran Mamdani in New York City. It was interesting to see how she reacted to criticism regarding the radical left. She, rather vocally, defended her stance on men participating in women’s sports by referencing her own college swimming experience. If only she had been faster, she implied, maybe things would have been different.

This jab from her was poignant, a reminder of how the political landscape has shifted, especially following Trump’s return to power. The days when the left could dictate an alternative reality seem to be fading. According to her tweet, it struck a chord within the party, highlighting a transition from controlling the narrative to a new president with a voter base that increasingly disagrees with them.

Yet, it feels like some things remain unchanged. The left has grown more radical, and while there’s been a shift since last year’s election, certain folks on the right seem to overlook the clear challenges ahead. There’s this lingering need to remember who the true adversaries are. AOC’s extreme viewpoints serve as a reminder of the obstacles faced.

Unfortunately, the left seems to have missed the memo post-2024 and has only doubled down on their extreme positions. Despite their setbacks, we’re still seeing signs of their influence, which could spell trouble if they manage a resurgence. For those of us who believe in a world that upholds traditional values, now is not the time to relax our efforts.

The death of Charlie Kirk is a stark reminder of the consequences of this political climate. It’s not only tragic that he lost his life at the hands of a radical, but it’s also disheartening to see the celebration surrounding it from certain groups. This incident occurred relatively recently, yet some rhetoric on the right feels like it hasn’t evolved. Perhaps we should be more united in our grief without letting policy discussions become personal disputes. We need to regain control over key issues that led to our victories in the past.

It seems the focus has inexplicably shifted away from the Democratic Party’s shortcomings, which likely suits them just fine. The America First movement faces threats that are hard to ignore. The real pain and suffering endured by many Americans under leftist governance can’t be forgotten, and if we wish to regain our footing in 2026, we have to reevaluate our approach.

The opposing party doesn’t seem to mind if vulnerabilities exist; in fact, they seem to thrive on it. Our internal battles over various policies might feel vital but can sometimes overshadow what truly matters. With rising threats, especially considering instances where individuals are harmed without recourse, we must maintain our focus. It raises questions about the relevance of our policy preferences if one side can act violently without repercussions.

This is a call to action. In 2026, conservative leadership needs to embody the spirit of Charlie Kirk. What about the rest of us? It requires commitment—door-knocking, voter registration, and forming diverse coalitions to reclaim this time. There are so many avenues to pursue, whether through direct campaigning or partnering with initiatives dedicated to our cause.

If we managed to close the movement gap and win in 2024, we can certainly do it again in 2026. Personally, I’d much rather see AOC and her allies continue to lash out than regain power over us.

We stand at a crossroads: we can either continue bickering internally and inevitably lose or band together to ensure a win. The results of the upcoming years ultimately rest in our hands.
