Joe Rogan is no stranger to bringing out some of the most interesting and controversial voices on his podcast, and his episode with Riley Gaines is no different.
Gaines tells Logan about her experience sharing a swim meet with two people who identify as transgender, one biological female and one biological male.
“They told me to treat this person like a woman, right?” Gaines says of Leah Thomas, a trans woman. “At the same national championship, there was another athlete who was transitioning, and this athlete was a woman who at the time identified herself as a male from Yale.”
“In the top eight women in the country, there’s a 6-foot-4 man wearing a bulging women’s swimsuit next to a woman wearing nothing but a Speedo,” Gaines added. .
“I’m sitting there watching this, and in my mind I’m thinking, ‘This is me, I’m definitely crazy.’ This is one hell of a Twilight Zone.” she says.
Gaines then shares a story about how he was forced to be honest about how he felt about Thomas on his team.
Thomas won the national title by swimming the 500-meter freestyle, beating the American Olympic record holder by “length,” Gaines said.
“Even the time he ran last year would have beaten the All-American women’s athletes this past season by almost two seconds. He became the first man to win the Division 1 NCAA women’s title,” she joked. I playfully called him a “pioneer.” ”
However, although Gaines was able to tie Thomas in the 200 meter freestyle, they only had one trophy, so they gave it to Thomas instead of her.
“I asked a question that no one had dared to ask all season and said, ‘Why?'” Gaines recalled. “He realized he didn’t have a good reason and he didn’t have an answer to this. So I really appreciate his honesty.”
“His face changed, he looked sad, and his voice changed. I could tell he didn’t even believe what he was about to say, but the officer looked at me and said, ‘Riley, “I’m sorry, but we have been advised as an organization that when we take pictures, it’s important that the trophy is in Leah’s hands,” she explained.
Dave Rubin was impressed by Logan’s strong guest appearance.
“Joe Rogan, a little-known podcaster, well, I think this guy is going to be successful,” he commented.
