To show support for the women's volleyball team, Gaines held a rally on Dec. 4 to praise the team for not playing a transgender opponent. She also talked about her journey in which she had to compete with biological men.
“I knew it was wrong to have a 6-foot-4 man undressing next to me in the locker room,” Gaines said. “We knew that we were facing silence from universities and educational institutions, and we knew how effectively they were actually silencing and silencing us. We knew it was all wrong. But none of us, myself included, had the courage that these girls on this court had today.”
