A Florida pre-med student was captured on a Ring camera holding a knife before stabbing his mother to death Saturday, WFLA reports.
Emanuel Espinoza, 21, a medical master’s student at the University of Florida, is accused of killing his mother, Elvia Espinoza, 46, because of the suspect’s dissatisfaction with the victim. according to To WFLA. Police arrested and charged him with first-degree murder.
“My mom called me Saturday morning and Manny said, [the suspect’s nickname] I haven’t seen you for a while. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd wants to come to Gainesville to meet with you on Monday, WFLA reports. “He said, ‘Mom, I’m going to visit my grandpa this weekend and he’s having an event and I’ll go with him.’ She said, ‘That’s great.’ Come home with me.” Would you like to stay the night? ‘ And he said, ‘Of course, I would love to do that.’ ”

“As soon as she opened the door, he burst in and started stabbing her,” Judd said. “He testified that because he had taken a biology class, he knew where to stab for maximum effect.” (Related: Woman says she stabbed her mother to death in phone call with police)
The affidavit states that the defendant was fully aware that stabbing the mother near the heart would be fatal. However, detectives found her with stab wounds all over her body, WFLA reported. The sheriff also noted that the suspect allegedly continued to stab her mother more than 70 times as she resisted, and that she continued to stab her again after noticing her movements.
“He said he stabbed her further because he noticed her hand was still moving. He then told detectives in his confession that he cut his hand with the knife when he stabbed his mother. According to WFLA, Judd said, “While I was standing at the kitchen sink, washing myself, holding a knife, I tried to ask my mother for Neosporin for a cut on my hand, but my mother was dead.” I realized that it was there,” he said.
After the attack, the suspect called 911 and said he had killed his mother. When officers arrived, they found the suspect covered in blood and her mother said she had killed her out of frustration. According to WFLA, the suspect admitted he had been thinking about killing her for years, even though he claimed he loved her.
