Ritz Peanut Butter Crackers Recalled Due to Mislabeling

Ritz peanut butter cracker sandwiches have been recalled in eight states across the U.S. because of mislabeling, raising concerns for those with peanut allergies.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that 70 affected shipments reached retailers in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Alabama.

This recall comes after a similar incident in July. However, the FDA clarified that this isn’t a new escalation but rather a precautionary measure. Interestingly, it only affects the same specific SKU and two code dates as before.

The recall stems from cartons that might contain packs labeled as cheese, but they actually contain peanut butter. This is particularly dangerous for those allergic to peanuts, as consuming these products could lead to serious or potentially life-threatening reactions.

It’s worth noting that the outer packaging is correctly labeled and does indicate the presence of peanuts.

The recall includes 20 six-pack cartons of Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches, with the UPC code being 44000075842. The best before dates are listed as January 26 for both the 8th and the 15th, with affected cartons featuring the AE factory code on the top.

Cartons containing only Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches are not affected by this issue.

Mondelēz Global LLC, the parent company, stated that they haven’t received reports of injuries or illnesses related to this mix-up. The recall was initiated after discovering that mislabeled products made their way to retailers in those eight states.

This situation follows a previous recall in July regarding various sizes of Ritz peanut butter cracker sandwiches, which was due to defects in the wrapping film.

Mondelēz International also owns other popular snack brands, including Oreo and Chips Ahoy.
