RNC co-chair Lara Trump says Larry Hogan ‘doesn’t deserve the respect of anyone in the Republican Party’

Republican National Committee (RNC) Co-Chair Lara Trump criticized former Maryland Governor and current moderate Republican candidate for the Maryland Senate election, Larry Hogan, for saying that the American people should accept the verdict in former President Trump’s hush money criminal trial, regardless of the outcome.

“I don’t think anybody deserves any respect for not speaking out against something that should never have seen the light of day again, against anybody but Donald Trump,” the former president’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, said Sunday when asked about Hogan in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“If that’s how you feel, then he doesn’t deserve any respect from anybody in the Republican Party at this point, and frankly, from anybody in America. And that makes me so angry to hear,” Lara Trump added of Hogan.

Former President Trump was convicted Thursday of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to conceal a scheme to hide information that could harm the American people ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

Hogan said ahead of Thursday’s guilty verdict announcement. Written on social platform X“Regardless of the outcome, I urge all Americans to respect the ruling and the legal process.”

“At such a divisive and dangerous time in our nation’s history, leaders of all parties must not add fuel to the fire with further poisonous partisanship, but reaffirm the rule of law that has made our country great,” the former Maryland governor added.

Trump adviser Chris LaCivita quickly responded, “You just finished campaigning.”

Hogan, who will face Democratic candidate Angela Alsobrooks in the November general election to represent Maryland in the U.S. Senate, struck a tone that markedly differed from the sentiments expressed by the vast majority of Republicans, many of whom have criticized the trial and argued it was politically motivated.

Lara Trump repeatedly dodged questions Sunday about whether the Republican National Committee would continue to support Hogan’s Senate bid in the wake of his comments.

When asked whether the Republican National Committee would use resources to support Hogan or whether Republicans planned to cede Maryland’s Senate seat to Democrats, Lara Trump repeatedly said, “We’ll get back to you with details.”

“What I would say is, of course we want to win as a party but it’s unfortunate and I think he should have thought long and hard before saying that publicly,” she said.

The Hill has reached out to Hogan’s camp for a response.
