RNC Expands Social Media Strategy with TikTok
The Republican National Committee (RNC) is ramping up its social media efforts, taking a cue from Donald Trump by officially launching a presence on TikTok. This shift seems aimed at better connecting with younger voters, a group that often engages through social platforms rather than traditional news sources.
The new TikTok account, @Republican, aims at voters under 30, a demographic that frequently looks to social media for their news. According to recent findings, about 63% of Americans aged 18 to 29 are using TikTok, making it an essential platform for reaching potential future voters.
Trump himself recognized the platform’s significance during his campaign, considering it a vital part of his electoral success in 2024. Interestingly, he stated that he was initially skeptical about TikTok but grew to appreciate its power. Reports indicate that after joining TikTok, he gained about 3 million followers in just a day, attracting tens of millions of views.
In 2025, the White House also joined TikTok, quickly gathering a significant following with millions of likes. The RNC is now encouraging Republican candidates nationwide to adopt a similar approach to engage young voters and balance the digital space, which has typically favored Democrats.
RNC Chairman Joe Gruters expressed confidence in TikTok’s potential, stating that it allows for direct engagement with young voters who prefer getting their information online. The Republican party is eager to leverage this platform following a historic deal that positioned TikTok to be majority owned by American interests, thus sidestepping concerns about foreign influence.
Trump celebrated the changes, noting his role in ensuring TikTok’s future in the U.S. He emphasized the importance of American ownership of the platform and lauded its potential as a voice for patriotic interests.
The backing of Trump and the party’s ability to connect with young voters played a crucial role in their recent electoral successes. As the midterm elections approach, Republicans are aiming to maintain their narrow majorities in both the House and Senate, despite historical trends that tend to favor Democrats.
Gruters has expressed strong faith in Trump’s ongoing influence, suggesting that his focus and policies from the past will benefit candidates across various levels of government.
