Ro Khanna supports Graham Platner despite accusations from the New York Times

Graham Platner deserves a chance for 'redemption' following tattoo and abuse claims, according to Khanna.

Democratic Representative Defends Senate Candidate Amid Controversy

Representative Ro Khanna from California stated that there is “no evidence of violence” concerning allegations from the New York Times against Graham Platner, a Democratic candidate for the Senate in Maine. In an appearance on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Khanna emphasized that while there was “toxicity” and verbal intimidation in Platner’s past relationships, he believes the claims do not indicate any violence.

Host Margaret Brennan highlighted an accusation from one of Platner’s former girlfriends, Lindsey Fifield, which claims Platner forcibly pulled her out of a taxi and grabbed her. When asked if he believed this account, Khanna responded, “I appreciate her courage in coming forward. I know some people might view her as biased because she’s a Republican, but that doesn’t really matter.” He affirmed that he believes her while criticizing Platner’s actions as disgraceful, acknowledging that their relationship was indeed toxic.

Brennan raised another incident reported by Fifield, where she described being pushed into a bedroom by Platner and waking up unable to leave shortly after. Despite these claims and previous controversies surrounding Platner—including a problematic tattoo, a controversial Reddit post, and explicit messages sent to another woman—Khanna has consistently supported Platner, suggesting he has learned from past mistakes and is making changes in his life.

Khanna, who has pushed for more economic reforms, noted, “I think it’s essential to focus on accountability and improvement. Our country requires that kind of relief.” His comments come as Platner campaigns to take the Senate seat in Maine, amid criticisms and emerging allegations from his past.

As the situation develops, the political landscape in Maine remains uncertain, especially with these unresolved claims hanging over Platner’s candidacy.
