Road rage incident leads to drivers shooting each other to death — one in front of his young children, police say

California State Police Said Two drivers shot and killed each other after a road rage incident in Highland on Saturday.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department statement Officers responded to a report of shots fired just before 8 p.m. and found two men with gunshot wounds when they arrived on the scene and took them to hospital, where both were pronounced dead.

“This is a great example of how quickly things can go wrong.”

Investigators said both deaths were the result of a road rage incident resulting from a hit-and-run accident.

According to police, Jonathan McConnell, 38, was riding his motorcycle on Highway 215 when he collided with a sedan driven by Aaron Harris, 37. McConnell, who was splitting lanes at the time, sped away from Harris, who was pursuing him.

Harris had two young children, ages 2 and 5, in her vehicle.

McConnell rode his motorcycle off the highway, pulled into a business park car park and met up with some acquaintances in front of Joy’s Lounge.

Ms Harris shouted threats at Mr McConnell and then fired at him as he approached her, after which Mr McConnell fired at Ms Harris.

Police said the children were unharmed, but a passerby was shot in the hand during the gunfight.

“It could have been something so simple and unfortunately it cost two lives instead.” Said Mara Rodriguez, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.

“There’s a lot of traffic these days and a lot going on,” she added, “but this is a perfect example of how things can get bad really quickly.”

San Bernardino County is the largest county in the continental United States by total area.
