Rob Riggle Discusses Hollywood’s Changing Landscape
Rob Riggle recently expressed concerns about a significant shift in the entertainment industry, particularly the migration of many projects away from Los Angeles. The actor and comedian, who stars in the upcoming holiday horror film “Christmas at the Kringles,” shared his insights during a conversation with Fox News Digital, noting that finding work in L.A. has become increasingly rare.
“A lot has changed in the way things are done,” he reflected. “I used to be here because I had to be available for work. Now, it’s almost the opposite; the majority of opportunities aren’t based here anymore. It’s become a rarity to find work in this city.” He emphasized that this change is a major reason behind the industry’s evolving dynamics.
Concerns Over the Audition Process
Riggle mentioned that actors can now audition without the need to be physically present in Los Angeles, which he described as a frustrating development. “You can’t just walk in anymore,” he noted. “It’s come down to recording yourself in front of a white wall in your garage, often enlisting a friend or family member to read lines with you. It’s not a great way to go about it. This is what we’ve been left with after COVID—it’s just not good.” He clearly feels that this new process is less personal and not ideal for showcasing talent.
“There are definitely economic factors that are prompting people to leave the area,” he added. Riggle, who is originally from Kansas City, expressed a desire to return to his roots. “I’d really like to make that happen,” he said, acknowledging he has commitments in California that need addressing first. “Once those are settled, I think returning to Kansas City, where my family and friends are, is something I would love.” It sounds quite nostalgic for him, which is understandable considering how much he holds that place close to his heart.
About “Christmas at the Kringles”
Promoting his new film, “Christmas at the Kringles,” Riggle shared his enthusiasm for the project, where he plays a character named “Drunk Santa.” He remarked on how much fun the filming process was and how the mix of comedy, horror, and holiday themes makes it particularly entertaining. “I knew it was going to be a blast just from the outset. The blend of genres is really something special,” he noted, expressing appreciation for his fellow cast members.
On a more personal note, Riggle shared about his family’s holiday preparations, saying they keep things orderly. “We don’t do chaos during Christmas,” he joked. They have it down to a science, he insisted—they start early and plan ahead to avoid any last-minute rush. A stark contrast, perhaps, to his past experiences celebrating the holidays in more unconventional settings, like his time in Afghanistan, which he recalled as both beautiful and challenging.
Reflecting on that Christmas in 2001, he described the serene night and the company of British special forces who shared a little holiday cheer with him. It served as a unique moment he cherishes, showcasing the unpredictability of life experiences.
Riggle’s commitment to discipline and perseverance, traits he credits to his Marine training, aligns well with his approach to his career. “If you keep at it, you’ll get where you want to go, but it takes hard work,” he advised, emphasizing the importance of sticking with one’s goals to achieve success.
The film “Christmas at the Kringles” is set to be released in theaters on October 30.
