Rob Schneider Advocates for Military Conscription in the U.S.
Rob Schneider has some thoughts on the future of the United States.
Over the weekend, the actor known for “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo” shared a well-known quote from John F. Kennedy on social media, prompting his followers to contemplate a new direction for the nation. The quote read, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”
Schneider suggested that the country needs to come together under a common purpose. “We must once again commit to being one nation under God, indivisible. Therefore, we must restore conscription for the youth of our nation,” he stated.
Interestingly, Schneider has no military service background himself. He proposed that every American should serve a two-year stint in the military upon turning 18—either overseas or volunteering domestically.
“Being an American citizen gives us unparalleled freedoms and opportunities that are the envy of the world. But these freedoms we cherish do not come without a price,” he remarked. By doing this, he believes that young people will not only protect these freedoms but also unite in service to their country and each other, regardless of their backgrounds.
He noted that many nations require their young citizens to serve, mentioning, “Until recently, our country was no different.”
Schneider acknowledged that the last U.S. military draft was during the Vietnam War, ending in 1972, though young men between 18 and 25 still need to register for the Selective Service System.
In his view, reinstating the draft could offer numerous benefits to society. “We will provide every young man and woman with rigorous physical training that will last them for the rest of their lives, and we will have a standing army ready at all times, including in domestic situations such as natural disasters,” he explained.
He expressed a desire for younger generations to learn about the unique freedoms the country offers, which he feels are often underappreciated. Serving, he claims, would also be a reminder of the sacrifices made by previous generations to ensure those freedoms.
Additionally, Schneider pointed out that a diverse representation in the military could lead elected officials to think twice about sending their children to distant wars unless absolutely necessary. “We have to start having this conversation and implementing this,” he urged. “For the young people of America, this is your country and this is your future.”
He concluded, emphasizing that the responsibility of safeguarding the future rests in the hands of the next generation. “We leave this great and free country in your good hands for the sake of your children and your children’s children. God bless the United States of America!”
As of now, there has been no official response from the White House regarding Schneider’s proposal.
