Rob Schneider Advocates for Free Speech at Berkeley Event
Comedian Rob Schneider spoke out in favor of free speech during a Turning Point USA event at the University of California, Berkeley. While addressing students, he recounted a tense yet respectful moment he had with actor Robert De Niro, emphasizing how responding with love rather than anger can be powerful.
Schneider encouraged attendees to “love those who are your enemies.” However, outside the venue, protests escalated into a scuffle near a conservative rally. Reports suggested that protesters used tear gas and staged a mock gunfire incident.
“The individuals who were stopping others from speaking—who were deemed ‘anti-fascists’—were also calling the students fascists,” Schneider remarked on “Fox & Friends.” He noted that the Turning Point USA members wanted peaceful discussion about their love for God, family, and country.
Rob Schneider’s View on Political Discourse
At the event, part of TPUSA’s “This Is The Turning Point Tour,” Schneider shared a surprising encounter with De Niro, known for his outspoken criticism of President Trump. Schneider recalled being confronted by De Niro, who questioned his political stance regarding the former president.
“De Niro turned to me and asked, ‘Schneider, how can you support that son of a b****?'” he recounted. Instead of engaging in an argument, Schneider replied simply, “I love you, I love you.”
Political Tensions and the Need for Love
Schneider believes that this approach—responding with love rather than hostility—could help defuse the increasing political tensions in society. “That’s how to address this,” he said. He stressed that countering anger with more anger isn’t effective and that love is the key to overcoming division.
