Actor Robert De Niro said Thursday on MSNBC’s “The 11th Hour” that the rise of former President Donald Trump is similar to the rise of Adolf Hitler in Germany in the 1930s.
De Niro said, “He’s sick. He’s really sick and somehow got into our system. I’m not calling him a bad name, he’s not close to the Oval Office.” It can’t be there.”
He continued: I don’t think they realize how dangerous it would be if he were to become president. I don’t think they really understand. And historically, as far as I can see, even Nazi Germany had that with Hitler. They don’t take him seriously. he looks like a clown. He acts like a clown. Mussolini. Same. I don’t understand why these people look like clowns. They are somehow human and elements of society identify with them in some way. But it will be more chaotic than we can imagine. There’s no mystery about him. He’s right in front of you. And what he’s saying is, what happens if he becomes president? ”
Adding, “That man is a monster. That’s wrong. It’s like he’s going to do the most horrible thing he can think of to get ahead of us. I don’t know what that is.”
De Niro concluded: “You always hear about people coming from Eastern Europe, Jews from other parts of Eastern Europe, Jews from Western Europe. Look at what happened with France, the Nazis, etc. And they come, you hear these things, and they leave, and when I was a kid they said, “You don’t really understand this country, do you? , what we know from experience.” Imagine what those people went through. We are just beginning to see it. You know, as a kid I said, “Hitler, that’s a nightmare that will never happen.” But now we know it’s possible. But sometimes I meet people who are close to my age, and they come from Eastern Europe, European countries, even Nazi Germany, and they understand that. ”
