Robin Wright Reflects on Regrets and New Beginnings
At 59 years old, Robin Wright is embracing her past while looking forward to what lies ahead. In a recent interview, the “House of Cards” star shared insights into her parenting regrets with her two children, whom she has with ex-husband Sean Penn. She explained her reasons for leaving Hollywood in pursuit of a calmer life in the English countryside.
“As a mother, I carry a lot of regret and have felt its impact over the years with my kids,” she admitted. Reflecting on her relationship with Penn, Wright noted their struggles, pointing out that they often didn’t navigate the complexities in between their extremes.
Wright and Penn married in 1996, finalizing their divorce in 2010. Their relationship began in 1989, following Penn’s divorce from Madonna. In earlier conversations, she spoke about the challenges of their split, emphasizing how devastating divorce can be, especially when children are involved. “It’s harder than anyone can imagine,” she said previously. “Trying to bring our family together sometimes led us to reconnect, but it was complicated.”
After years of dealing with the Hollywood hustle, Wright sought peace in England, describing her new home as a place filled with kind, genuine people. “I love it here. There’s a sense of freedom. People are more present, rather than rushing around,” she remarked, contrasting it with the fast-paced life she experienced in America.
Wright recently found love with Henry Smith, 52, after meeting him at a local pub about a year ago. “He’s a sweetheart, just genuinely kind,” she shared about her relationship.
The couple faced challenges early on, as they both contracted COVID-19 shortly after meeting, which deepened their bond in unexpected ways. “It felt like an intense experience that made us really want to know each other,” she explained. Wright expressed her desire to share her life moving forward, saying, “I have enjoyed being alone, but now I want to grow older with someone special and explore the world together.”
Currently working on a new drama for Prime Video, Wright is excited about traveling with Smith along the UK coast. “It’s freeing to think about new adventures,” she said, adding that it’s about pursuing what you truly desire in life.
“I feel seen for who I am and loved for it. That’s incredibly soothing,” Wright concluded.
