Rockies make dreadful history in epic collapse against Marlins

The Colorado Rockies are one of the worst teams in baseball, and on Tuesday night they suffered a 7-6 loss to the Miami Marlins, a club that also had a terrible season.

The Rockies became the first team since 1900 to trail in all of their first 29 games. This record broke the record set in 1910 by the St. Louis Browns, who trailed in their first 28 games.

Unfortunately for the Rockies, the mark was set in the final inning as well. Colorado wasn’t behind until the final pitch.

Colorado led 5-0 in the first inning, and Ryan Feltner was looking for a complete game in the ninth inning. But he allowed Vidal Brujan to hit first, Christian Bethancourt was hit by a pitch, and Luis Arraez had an RBI double.

Justin Lawrence relieved Feltner but gave up a walk to Brian Delacruz. Myers then drove in two runs and Jesus Sanchez was hit by a pitch. Emmanuel Rivera then hit a sacrifice fly for another point.

Miami’s 5-run ninth point tied the game.

“I’m going to take some time to think about my performance,” Feltner said. “Right now, I just feel like I let the team down. We had to end the ninth inning with an out. I’ve never been in a situation like that before. We’re going to go back to the ninth inning and then we’ll have to go back to the ninth inning. I want it to end.”

The silver lining for the Rockies was the debut of Jordan Beck. He went 2-for-4 that night and hit a single in his first at-bat.
