Aaron Rodgers’ Start with Steelers Shows Potential
Aaron Rodgers kicked off his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers on a somewhat rocky note, throwing an interception on his first pass during team practice on Thursday. Still, the seasoned NFL quarterback brushed it off, seeing it more as part of the process than a setback.
“It’s good to get in the way,” Rodgers remarked with a smile while addressing reporters after practice.
He noted that many who have observed his practice sessions over the years often want him to attempt certain throws. And, well, he has been taking care of the football for quite some time, so he’s accustomed to these kinds of moments.
Rodgers, who is 41, joined the Steelers last month following a challenging two-year stint with the New York Jets that didn’t quite pan out as hoped. Injuries held back his ambitions to bring the Lombardi Trophy back to New York, and, well, the second year wasn’t much better, to say the least.
Yet he emphasized that one throw doesn’t define an entire season. “There’s certainly a pick. I try to fit a specific one. Sometimes, I have to sweat the ball, so throwing this heat every day would be a good challenge,” he added.
Reflecting on his previous experiences with the Jets, he mentioned feeling slightly more secure about turning around the Steelers’ situation. “I think there are only about 6 to 8 teams that really have a legitimate chance at winning the Super Bowl,” Rodgers said. “Sometimes it’s 10 to 12, but I think on paper, we’re in that mix.” It’s an interesting perspective—optimistic, yet maybe a touch cautious.
In his last season, Rodgers logged 3,987 passing yards, along with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions across 17 games. As he continues to settle into his new role, fans will surely be watching closely to see how he develops with this new team.
