Are Sirens Cursed?
At Cedar Point, the roller coaster known as “The Curse of the Siren” recently faced some challenges. This ride, which opened in late June, had an incident last Tuesday where it unexpectedly halted.
The coaster, located in Ohio, stopped shortly after it started its ascent on the Sky High Tower. It appears that the distinctive tilting features, designed to hold riders at certain points, triggered the ride’s safety system, leading to the abrupt stop. A spokesperson confirmed that while the safety measures worked as intended, the ride was not reopened immediately. Thankfully, all riders were safely escorted off.
Some participants may have found the evacuation more unnerving than the roller coaster itself. A video posted online showed riders carefully making their way down evacuation stairs, gripping the railings tightly as they navigated the steep incline.

Interestingly, there were passengers in the middle of the line who didn’t seem rattled at all. However, one social media user pointed out, “That walk is definitely 10 times more scary than actually getting on.” Another chimed in, expressing their fear of heights: “If this happened to me, my bones would melt and only clumps of skin remain.”
Sensors have been causing troubles for coasters like this one, which is notably one of the tallest, longest, and fastest rides. Notably, its opening was unprecedented and has led to unusual stoppages at unexpected moments.
On the inaugural day for public access, the ride experienced a blackout that left passengers hanging for a good ten minutes. Then, on July 2nd, it encountered an issue at the 160-foot mark, leading to the evacuation protocol. Just a few days later, it had a third malfunction, but resumed operation about 20 minutes later—albeit at a precarious 45-degree angle.
