Ron Howard Celebrates 50 Years of Marriage with Meaningful Donation

Ron Howard and his wife, Cheryl, are marking their 50-year marriage in a heartfelt way. The acclaimed director recently shared that they gifted a Victorian-style love seat to a park in the Los Angeles area—a special place where they once went on a date.

“I thought it would be nice to have a vintage-style seating area for couples to enjoy each other’s company,” he mentioned in an interview. Initially, Howard envisioned a traditional bench, but the unique “Kiss Chair” concept took shape instead.

This bronze chair is situated in Johnny Carson Park, with its estimated cost being around $88,440.

Reflecting on their early days, the 71-year-old director recounts meeting Cheryl in high school. He quipped about being young and carefree when they would go out on dates. Recently, his brother, actor Clint Howard, visited the park and noticed a couple sitting in the kissing chair, humorously noting, “Hey, it’s working!”

In a chat with Fox News Digital, Clint Howard praised Ron for his accomplishments and acknowledged Cheryl’s significant contribution as well.

Ron and Cheryl tied the knot on June 7, 1975, when Howard was just 21. He expressed his strong conviction about marrying her at such a young age. His “Happy Days” co-star, Henry Winkler, stood by him as the best man, reminiscing about catching the garter at the wedding.

Celebrating their milestone anniversary this June, Howard shared a couple of photographs on Instagram, featuring them enjoying a sunset beach moment. He reflected on their journey together, describing it as an “adventure down the river through calm, soothing waters and some tricky rapids.” He tagged the post with #GoldenAnniversary.

The couple is proud parents to four children, including “Jurassic World” star Bryce Dallas Howard. He recounted their modest wedding, emphasizing how it was vital to Cheryl’s dad that he funded it, keeping the event relatively simple despite inviting 300 people.

Howard concluded by noting that many from “The Andy Griffith Show” and “Happy Days” attended their wedding, recalling the day fondly. “We didn’t have a reception; it was just a small gathering at my parents’ home, but it was perfect in its own way,” he said, reflecting on how it all worked out beautifully.
