Senator Raises Questions About Presidential Assassination Attempt

WASHINGTON — Senator Ron Johnson has voiced his concerns regarding the limited information available about Thomas Matthew Crooks, the man who attempted to assassinate President Trump. During an interview on “Pod Force One,” he defended the FBI’s subpoena for records related to Crooks.

“It’s surprising that a year later, we still haven’t heard much. What about his social media accounts?” Johnson (R-Wis.) expressed during the podcast. “Why isn’t this information being shared? Americans deserve to know more. It’s just strange; for instance, one other potential assassin was featured in a BlackRock commercial. I mean, what’s going on?”

Crooks, who was only 20 years old, was shot and killed by an anti-sniper on July 13, 2024, after he fired a shot that grazed President Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. In the incident, Crooks also fatally injured firefighter Corey Comperatore and wounded two others.

Amid these grave concerns, Johnson, who oversees the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, issued a subpoena to the FBI in July for related records.

“I view my subpoena as a friendly request,” he noted. However, he also acknowledged that the Trump administration has many pressing issues to address. “Some priorities may be important to us, but they have other matters to handle,” he added.

Johnson hopes that telecommunications companies will assist in uncovering more about the case. “I believe a news organization, perhaps the New York Post, conducted a geolocation search on Crooks’ cellphone. It feels like a chaotic situation, almost like a circus,” he remarked.

Yet, he admitted caution when discussing ongoing investigations. “My staff advises me to be careful; we’re not sure how credible the information is,” he shared. “Still, it’s crucial to address these questions.”

“Unanswered queries often breed conspiracy theories,” he added, hinting at the potential for misinformation.

Details of the Investigation

Earlier in February, the Post reported that a private investigator linked one of Crooks’ electronic devices to various locations during the shooting and noted that it was still active at Bethel Park High School. This raised suspicions that Crooks might not have acted alone.

Recently, it came to light that Crooks identified with they/them pronouns and had a fascination with political violence.

While Johnson’s team has not uncovered shocking information during their investigation into the assassination attempt, he did indicate that some details are beginning to surface. “It’s been a lengthy process. I think we’re finally starting to receive information from the Pennsylvania State Police,” he concluded, without going into specifics.
