Ron Rivera to get first crack at Jets’ head coaching interview

The Jets are holding their first interviews for their head coaching vacancy.

Ron Rivera I am scheduled to have a job interview. This week, NFL Network reported on Monday morning ahead of Sunday's final game of the season against the Dolphins.

Rivera, 62, was fired as the Commanders' coach at the end of last season after Washington finished 4-13 in his fourth season.

He compiled a 26-40-1 record in four seasons and won the 2020 NFC East Tournament despite going 7-9. Washington lost in the wild-card round in Rivera's only playoff appearance during his tenure.

Rivera previously served as the Panthers' head coach for nine seasons, leading the Panthers to a 15-1 regular season appearance and a trip to Super Bowl 50.

Carolina went 76-63-1 in Rivera's nine seasons and 3-4 in the playoffs. He won Coach of the Year awards in 2013 and 2015.

As for the other candidates, former Jets coach Rex Ryan told ESPN NY Radio on Monday morning that they will be interviewed.



Asked if he thought he would have a chance to be interviewed live, Ryan said, “I believe so.” “But, no, I haven't talked to anyone in the organization, but I believe from now on we will. Look, they're not going to bring anyone in until the end of the season, I'm sure. This is the Woody way. is [Johnson] It's always worked and we'll see what happens when the season ends. ”

The Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas during the season.

They then hired The 33rd Team, led by former GM Mike Tannenbaum, to help them find a coach and GM.

The Jets are interviewing Thomas Dimitroff, Jon Robinson and Jim Nagy to become general manager, and Louis Riddick was expected to interview as well.
