Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.)’s second bid for a Montana Senate seat ended in less than a week.
Rosendale withdrew from the race on Thursday, Politico reportafter jumping into the Republican primary to challenge Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) last Friday.

His candidacy took a hit within hours of announcing his candidacy, as President Donald Trump endorsed National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) favorite Tim Sheehy.
The news is Trump’s victory. In a post on Truth Social announcing his support for Sheehy, Trump appeared to be pushing Rosendale to withdraw from the race, writing, “I also respect Matt Rosendale.” “I have been very happy to support him in the past and will support him again in the future.” What if in the future he changes his course and decides to run for Congress? ”
Rosendale has not yet announced whether he will seek to retain his House seat. He challenged Mr. Tester for the U.S. Senate in 2018, but lost what many national forecasters believed was an overwhelming race for the seat in ruby-hued Montana.
With Rosendale out of the way, Sheehy appears to be on track for the nomination, with the added bonus of retaining the resources to fight Tester in the general election.
