Former comedian Rosie O’Donnell has openly criticized President Donald Trump, suggesting that his actions have negatively impacted mental health, leading her to develop unhealthy drinking habits. O’Donnell, who recently moved to Ireland following Trump’s election win in November, shared her thoughts during an appearance on “The Chris Cuomo Project” podcast, explaining her decision to leave the U.S.
“I was very depressed. I was eating too much. I was overwhelmed,” O’Donnell said. “It hurt my heart that Americans believed lies about him, and it broke my heart and fell into a business that created and sold those lies for commercial purposes.”
She also described experiences of ridicule from Trump supporters around the time of the election, particularly involving her and her child. “The people at CVS are me and my autistic 12-year-old, ‘Hey, Rosie, Trump won, haha.’ People cursed by us,” she claimed.
“I feel safe,” she noted about her new life in Ireland. “Maga support is not available here.” O’Donnell explained that celebrities in Ireland are viewed differently, feeling more like “normal people.” She mentioned how returning to Ireland felt like coming home, saying her daughter remarked, “You can become a normal person here.”
O’Donnell mentioned a humorous encounter at a local pub, where she bought a pint of Guinness. When approached by a man, she responded positively, indicating she’s ready to embrace this new chapter in her life.
“I need to take care of myself to be a good parent of this 12-year-old that I have to be around for another 20 years,” she added.
